by admin, July 16, 2025 | A longtime friend of ICML, PhD candidate Matthew Spurlock at Carolina University, is conducting academic research and seeking participants who hold current MLT I or MLT II certifications while working in lubrication-related positions.

Matthew’s study, approved by the Institutional Review Board at Carolina University, explores how employees’ perceptions of leadership and organizational commitment may vary based on certification status and pay structure. He is especially interested in MLT credential holders who are actively working in the industrial lubrication field.

If you qualify and choose to participate, you will complete two established survey instruments:

  1. The TCM Employee Commitment Survey (measuring organizational commitment)
  2. The Leadership Competency Inventory (measuring perceptions of leader competence)

Estimated time: 30 minutes

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently hold MLT I or MLT II credential
  • Currently work in an industrial lubrication role, such as:
    • Lubrication Technician
    • Lubricant Analyst
    • Lubrication Champion
    • Lubrication Supervisor
    • Reliability Engineer (if involved in lubrication)

Not eligible if:

This is a voluntary, uncompensated opportunity to support doctoral research into employee commitment and perceptions of leader competency. Your responses will be stored securely and anonymized. Survey responses will be collected during July and August 2025. Clicking the button below will direct you first to the consent form, which we encourage you to review thoroughly before proceeding to the survey questions.

Estimated time: 30 minutes.

If you have questions about any of this, please contact Matthew Spurlock directly or his dissertation chair, Dr. Rosalie Kern.
Please note: ICML is not involved in this research beyond promoting participation among our MLT-certified members, so we cannot respond to inquiries.
